Chechen prisoner denied assistance

            According to the information, received from employees of Committee on protection of displaced people’s rights, on 19 May in the pre-trial detention center 26/2 in Pyatigorsk, the well-known "White swan", one of the prisoners, a resident of the Chechen Republic Abubakar Mezhiev, has got a heart attack. The man has survived only by miracle, however, no assistance was provided to him.

In this connection they intend to approach the International Committee of the Red Cross for assistance.

Three district of Chechnya left without electricity

            At night on 19 May, the settlements of Shatoiski, Shalinski and Itum-Kalinski district run out of electricity supply. The information on it is received from inhabitants of the above-mentioned district. At present, electricity supply in these areas is still not restored. According to the available information, the reason of electricity cut-off in these republics, where approximately 130 thousand people live, according to some information, is accident on Argunski thermal power station.

Fighting near Tangi-Chu

            According to the information, received from local residents, on 17 May, in a large forest on the outskirts of the village of Tangi-Chu of Urus-Martanovski district a fighting between a group of insurgents and Russian militaries occurred. There is information that firing between militaries and insurgents was done with use of automatic weapons and grenade cup discharges.

            As a result of the cross firing, three militaries were wounded. Insurgents managed to escape to unknown direction. Later, additional forces of militaries and militia arrived to the place of the incident. They blocked the area and conducted a so-called "cleaning up operation" of districts. The information on casualties or injures among militants is not available.

Detentions of citizens

Grozny’s Oktiabrski district

            On 18 May, in Oktiabrski district of the city of Grozny, employees of local law enforcement bodies detained a local resident of about 20-years. The reasons of detention of the young man and his surname are being established.

Vedenski district

            According to one of the inhabitants of the village of Oktiabrskoye of Vedenski district, on 17 May, employees of power structures detained and took away to unknown direction his 22-years villager. The arrested person was accused by law enforcer of aiding and abetting insurgents.

His surname is not provided due to the request of the source.

Republic of Ingushetia

Militiaman wounded in Nazran

            At night on 19 May, on Itazova-street in the city of Nazran an employee of the Ingush militia, who was protecting the building of one the ministries made a shot from a sub-machine gun and wounded one of his colleagues. This information was obtained from a city dweller.

According to him, an employee of a private security agency Musiev, due to casual handling of the weapon, made a shot. The bullet got into a leg of the other militiaman, which was later hospitalized. The surname of the victim is being estbalished.
