«Address special operation» in Grozny

            According to one of inhabitants of the city of Grozny, on the previous day workers of local power departments conducted an "address special operation". During this "action" they detained and took away to unknown direction a man, resident of Vedenski district of the republic. The reasons of his detention and the surname of the man are being established.

Detentions of citizens

Argun town

            On the 28th of January, in the town of Аrgun employees of Russian and local power structures detained an inhabitant of Shalinski district, a young man of about 25-27 years. According to the information, received from inhabitant Argun, law enforcers stopped the young man on one of the streets to check his documents. A quarrel happened between them, and the man was detained and taken away to unknown direction.

            According to the other information, having received the order to show the documents, the young man took out a manual grenade and tried to throw it at militiamen. The circumstances of the incidents are being established.

Alkhan-Kala

            On the 24th of January, in the village of Alkhan-Kala of Groznenski district, as a result of conduction of the so-called "address operation", representatives of power departments detained two local residents of about 44 and 30 years. This information was obtained from a villager of the arrested person.

            According to the source, the detainees were accused belonging to militants. Their surnames are not provided due to the request of the source.

Guderems

            According to the information, received from local residents, on the 22nd of January on Yamadaev street in the town of Gudermes workers of local militia detained a city dweller Imran Bashtarov. There is information that the young man was stopped on the street for documents check, then they searched and detained him.

The reason for detention of Bashtarov by law enforcers is unknown.

Additional information

            At night on the 29th of January, Russian militaries subjected to bombardment from long-range weapons the village of Gekhi of Urus-Martan district. Thus, earlier militaries stated that they made strikes on large forests of the neighboring Achkhoi-Martanovski district with the purpose to destroy a group of militaries, which had entered to cross firing with militaries on the previous day. (Information Release № 1211 dated 29 January 2008).

            According to the information, received from inhabitants of this settlement, as a result of the shooting of militaries at the village, 26 houses were partially destroyed and damaged. Three trucks and two light skin vehicles belonging to local residents were seriously damaged. Besides, a gas and electric lines were damaged as well.

            Inhabitants of village are extremely indignant by the incident and express their bewilderment by the way that militaries, which were firing at large forests in Achkhoi-Martanovski district, could "miss" 25 kilometers and sent shells out at the large settlement of another district. Luckily, there are no casualties or injuries among population of Gekhi.

Additional information

According to the information, received from local residents, on January 27, in the vicinity of the village of Gordali of Nozhai-Yurtovski district a fighting between employees of power structures and a group of militants has occurred. During this clash two law enforcers were killed and two others received wounds.

Later, militaries and militiamen arrived to the area of the clash and conducted a ‘mopping up operation” there. One of the persons killed in cross firing with militants in Nozhai-Yurtovski district is the employee of the Chechen militia Tahhir Chalaev. Besides, according to the same source, as a result of the clash two more persons - a man and a woman – were killed. Law enforcers informed that the killed persons were militants. Their corpses were found in the vicinity of the village of Bas-Gordali. (Information Releases № 1210 dated 28 January 2008 and 1211 dated 29 January 2008).

            Today surnames of the deceased militants killed in Nozhai-Yurtovski district became known. They are Malkan Chagaeva and Adam Abdulaev.
