Statistics on murders and abductions, end of March - April 2008

The general situation in the Chechen Republic in March - April of the current year continued remaining complicated. In opinion of some observers, with approach of the spring-and-summer period, the activity of participants of armed formations, especially in the mountain-woody areas, has increased. Thus, in the mountain part of the republic a low scale clash between law enforcers and participants of armed formations occurred, and in the foothill area of Achkhoi-Martanovski district militants fired at a military helicopter.

As earlier, cases of illegal arrests of citizens are quite widespread in the territory of the republic. Part of them was later released, usually with the requirement to come to militia on the short notice.

The situation in the Republic of Ingushetia also remains constrained. Number of attacks on representatives of authorities, acts of terrorism as well as attempts to carry out acts of terrorism still takes place.

According to the information, received by the Information center for CNO and published in our information releases, during the period of end of March - April 2008, in the Chechen Republic the following number of people are killed and died in various circumstances:

11 persons (including two under-age girls, one woman and two teenagers, victims of explosion of an item of ordnance) are killed and died in various circumstances.

2 militaries, died as a result of the road incident.

2 employees of power structures and the vice-chairman of the Supreme Court of the republic are killed in the course of the same period in the neighboring Ingushetia.

4 persons became victims of abduction in March-April of the current year in the Chechen Republic. All of them were employees of law-enforcement structures.

24 persons were detained in the course of the same period in different areas of the Chechen Republic on suspicion in fulfillment of various crimes. Some of them were released later.

In March-April in the Chechen Republic occurred

8 raids and attacks of militants on employees of various power departments.

4 similar acts are registered in Ingushetia.
