Statistics on killing and abductions in February 2007

           The situation in the Chechen Republic during the reported month has not changed at all. The facts of violation of the rights and freedom of people still continue to take place in the republic. In spite of the fact that comparing with the first several years of "anti-terrorist operation" extrajudicial executions, murders, kidnappings, unsanctioned detentions with subsequent tortures and mockeries at arrested persons tend to decrease, these crimes still remain one of the main problems of the Chechen Republic today.

Cases, when illegally detained citizens through tortures and beatings were forced to confess about committing any crimes and, as a result, a criminal case towards this or that person opened behindhand, are frequent. Cases of open arbitrariness of employees of various force departments towards peaceful citizens are also frequent. The main personage in the Chechen Republic is still a «person with a gun».

According to the information, received by the Information centre of CNO and published in our information releases, in February of the current year on the territory of the Chechen Republic 12 persons are killed and died under various circumstances. Among them are 5 militiamen, 2 women and one child. Besides, as a result of armed clash two employees of power structures and about nine potential fighters have been killed.

At the same time, in the city of Grozny at various times remains of five persons have been revealed. The circumstances of their death are unknown.

During the reporting period in Ingushetia five persons have been killed. One resident of Ingushetia, Kurkiev was killed in Moscow by a group of teenagers, most likely, so-called skinheads.

In February on the territory of the Chechen Republic four persons have been kidnapped and disappeared under the obscure circumstances. Among them is a girl-teenager who disappeared under the obscure circumstances.

On suspicion in committing various crimes employees of power structures detained and arrested 24 persons in various districts of the Chechen Republic. Some of them, probably, were released later.

In Ingushetia the "servicemen" detained 6 persons.
