Statistics on murders and abductions, end of February - March 2008

 

The situation in the Chechen Republic in the period of end of February - March of the current year remained quite complicated. The beginning of the month in the republic was marked with some splash of activity of militants. At the same time, facts of human rights and freedom violation still remain one of the vital issues for residents of the republic.

As before, many citizens of the republic, who became victims of arbitrariness and violence, are still afraid to inform about the incident, fearing of possible negative consequences of such steps both for themselves and for their relatives and friends. At the same time, it is necessary to note, that some of the citizens that underwent unauthorized arrests are released later, but very often is impossible to track their further destiny.

            The situation in the neighboring Ingushetia remains quite serious. Attacks on employees of power structures and representatives of authorities still continue taking place.

According to the information, received by the Information center for CNO and published in our information releases, during the period of end of February and March, on the territory of the Chechen Republic 12 person (among them are seven employees of militia) are killed and died under different circumstances. Besides, as a result of two road incidents 9 persons has died.

During the same period in Ingushetia 9 persons were killed, among them are 1 woman and three employees of power departments.

In February - March in the Chechen Republic three persons were kidnapped and disappeared under the obscure circumstances. There is one woman among them.

In Ingushetia law enforcers kidnapped a young man.

On suspicion in fulfillment of various crimes during the same period in different districts of the Chechen Republic 32 persons were detained. There is one woman among them. Several of them were later released.

Beside, during the same period in the Chechen Republic about five attacks on employees of various power departments occurred. In Ingushetia six similar incidents were reported.
