Statistics of murders and abductions for May 2007

The situation in the Chechen Republic has not changed during the reported period. The cases of murders, abductions, unauthorized detentions and arrests of citizens still remain the usual phenomenon.

Still majority of abductions conducted by employees of unidentified power structures who usually do not explain to relatives of the detained person the reason of his accusation, to what of power structures employees conducting "special action" belong, and at last, the exact place the suspect is taken to. Very often it takes weeks for the people to seek for their relatives, captured during such "actions".

The approach of a spring-and-summer season is marked both with increase in number of fighting and cross firing between participants of the armed formations and representatives of power structures. Simultaneously, the massed shelling of mountain-woody district by Russian militaries became more frequent. The number of so-called "cleaning up operations" in the settlements has increased as well, though, unlike the first years of "counterterrorist operation", now they are conducted without mass infringements by militaries and "securities".

According to the information, received by the Information centre of CNO and published in our information releases, in May of the current year on the territory of the Chechen Republic 9 persons are murdered and died under various circumstances. Among them are employees of militia, the man who became a victim of undermining, etc. Besides, during fighting between fighters and employees of power structures occurred in various areas of the Chechen Republic, both parties have casualties. Their exact number remains unknown.

During the same period in Ingushetia 2 persons are murdered. One of them was the employee of militia, and the second one is a 9-years child, resident of TAC of IDPs from the Chechen Republic.

In May on the territory of the Chechen Republic abducted and disappeared under the obscure circumstances 5 persons.

In Ingushetia three citizens are kidnapped.

On suspicion in committing various crimes 37 persons were detained and arrested by employees of power structures in various areas of the Chechen Republic. Among them are 2 teenagers and an employee of power departments. Later, some of the arrested persons have been released. Besides that, in Dagestan a resident of the Chechen Republic was detained. In North Ossetia a resident of Prigorodny district, Ingush ethnic, was detained.

During the same period in the Chechen Republic militaries and employees of various power structures conducted about 9 "special operations" and "cleaning up operations". In the neighboring Ingushetia similar "actions" were conducted six times.

Besides, during the same period on the territory of the Chechen Republic 10 military conflicts between employees of power structures and participants of the armed formations have occurred. Thus, there are killed and wounded persons from both sides.

As well as previously, in May the outskirts of the settlements in the mountain part of the republic was regularly exposed to the massive bombardment and rocket attacks.
